Can You Use A Carpet Cleaner On A Mattress?

Can you use a carpet cleaner on a mattress?

The most inevitable thing that you cannot stop from happening is when you get a stain on your mattress. But also when having young kids that like to jump on your bed in the morning, some accidents that happen on the mattress cannot be avoided.

Apart from accidents, the mattress can get grubby over time from general wear and tear. When you wake up in the morning in a sweat sometime and the sweat will go into your mattress as it acts as a wick.

The answer to the question is tricky as for instance you would prefer the manufacturer's care manually, after you purchase your mattress, you will have cleaning instructions provided along with it. But if you cannot clean your mattress with a regular vacuum and a light steamer then you will need to take drastic actions.

How about using a hot water extraction carpet cleaner?

If you are trying to do this task early in the morning if possible then you will have enough time allowing a few hours for drying. Make sure that there is enough room for ventilation and sufficient heat in the room so you can dry the mattress.

First, when using the hot water extraction carpet cleaners, you should know that they will leave a lot of water behind. That will leave your mattress sodden so make sure that you are aware of this otherwise you will be needing to buy a new mattress.

Now when using the carpet cleaner hot water extraction machine make sure that you choose the right cleaning solution by following the manufacturer's dilution guidelines. When trying to clean organic stains you would wish that you choose a chemical that has enzyme detergent for effective cleaning.

Another thing is that you should make sure that you have a stiff hand brush on hand.

When cleaning the pre-wet stains with the chemical diluted do not use it on the whole mattress only on the stained area agitate it with the bristles of the hand brush.

Then proceed with the hot water extraction machine and make sure that you do not wet the mattress excessively. Once the stain is removed then run multiple passes over the pre-soaked area so that you can remove as much moisture as possible.

Furthermore, there can be very stubborn stains like milk that you need to spray again with the detergent, and bloodstains that cannot be removed with this treatment. In that case, you just need to move on and clean the rest of the mattress.

Finally, I would like to say that carpet cleaners are not really an ideal way to clean a mattress as the carpet cleaner chemical can be harsh that are designed for foot traffic and all the grime foot traffic brings. The reality of this is that sometimes you need an aggressive solution, and a carpet cleaner can rejuvenate the appearance of a stained mattress. The main key to deep cleaning a mattress is to keep it dry as possible and always work it well in a well-ventilated room.
