Cooling Mattress

Cooling Mattress

Some people are on the cooler side and some people are on the warmer side, your resting temperature can pose as some trouble for different things, one of those things are when you are trying to fall asleep. There are some mattresses that actually help cool your body down to get optimal sleep. Cooling mattresses are great for hot sleepers and for warmer temperatures, such as the summer, as we usually struggle a bit to fall asleep or to stay asleep during the summer because of how hot it is.

Your body drops a few degrees (typically one or two degrees) when you sleep, you sleep better when you are cooler, your body doesn’t just cool down when you are falling asleep, but your body cools down as bedtime approaches, to ensure that you are able to have the best more restful sleep, the loss of heat is what helps your mind and body slowly fall asleep and stay asleep.

There are some mattress types that are good for hot sleepers.

There are 2 main mattresses the memory foam mattress and the pocket sprung mattress, there are other mattresses too however, they are subsections of those mattresses some of the main ones are hybrid mattresses, cool gel mattresses and latex mattresses.

Sprung mattress

A mattress that has a sprung layer is great for cooling down, as the spring coils in a mattress allows for there to an improved airflow therefore increasing the breathability of a mattress, keeping you cooler for longer. You can get this in multiple different types of mattresses such as hybrids; memory foam, latex, and pocket-sprung mattresses.

Latex

The way a latex mattress is designed is that they typically are an open-cell design which makes it so that the airflow, air circulation, and breathability is great, this is a good alternative to a memory foam mattress. Latex mattresses are the most cooling of mattresses among the contouring mattresses this includes hybrids and memory foam mattresses due to the open-cell structure, which doesn’t trap any heat in.

Wool

Often natural materials and fabrics are better than synthetic ones, especially when it comes to naturally cooling down the body, a material that is good at regulating heat is wool. Wool is incredibly breathable, and it also has insulating qualities meaning that it will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Memory foam

Memory foam is a good mattress however, this mattress doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to keeping you cool for the whole night. Some memory foam mattresses now do have open-cell foam which much like the latex mattress allows for it to become more breathable and allows for there to be better airflow circulation. Memory foam mattresses don’t have the best reputation when it comes to keeping you cool throughout the night as they often retain body heat, so if you are a hot sleeper ideally this isn’t a mattress that would be recommended for you.

Cool gel mattress

A cool gel mattress seems as though they would keep up cool throughout the night, cool gel mattresses so cool you down as suggested in the name however, they don’t keep you cool for the whole night. The material that a cool gel mattress uses does draw the heat away from your body fairly fast however, it isn’t likely that this cooling effect will last the whole night.

If you are cooling for a mattress then out of the mattress that have been covered, then the latex mattress seems the best in terms of cooling you down and keeping you cool the longest throughout the whole night.
