Standard health problems from old mattresses
Some dozers might feel like they aren’t ready to support a new mattress, and that’s okay. Although sleeping on the old one can be much worse than shopping and spending capital. After all, old mattresses are often associated with the following problems:
Dust mite allergies. Mattresses can accumulate moisture and dead skin cells, constructing a favourable environment for dust mites. Also, dust mite infestation naturally directs to allergic responses like coughing, nasal congestion, irritated eyes, mouth dryness and more.
Mould allergies. Although moisture build-up is common in old mattresses, it also often generates mould to grow and snoozing with mould typically conducts to allergies and can even aggravate one’s respiratory problems such as asthma.
Irritated skin and breakouts. Old mattresses collect dead skin cells, body oils, and dust, prompting bacteria growth. Also, all the bacteria can irritate the skin and cause inflammation, leading to breakouts and sometimes even acne.
Back pain. Mattresses tend to lose their supportive properties as they age. As a result, they cannot keep the sleeper’s body structure in a neutral position, leading to spinal misalignment.
This normally causes stress build-up in some areas of the back and, therefore, pain. That’s why sleepers often switch old models to chiropractor-recommended mattresses to take care of their backs and change the results of their old mattresses.
Poorer sleep quality. If the mattress is old, it’s merely not as relaxing anymore. Naturally, resting on an old mattress can lead to tossing and turning and bodily discomfort, and frequent nocturnal awakenings.
Aggravated asthma or chronic allergies. Old mattresses can gather pet hair, pollen, and additional allergens. Also, the longer users sleep in such circumstances, the worse their allergies will get.
Infections. It’s clear that old mattresses often become homes for bacteria. However, some of those bacteria can be pathogenic, leading to inflammation and diseases. This issue is particularly common in humid and poorly circulated rooms.
