Ottoman Bed Or Divan

Ottoman bed or divan

Whether you’re interested in maximising the space in your bedroom or looking to introduce hidden storage, Divan and ottoman beds tick all the boxes, but it depends on what kind of storage you need and the style of your bedroom.

What is an ottoman bed?

An ottoman bed has an open storage system, that allows the bed base to lift and also the base uses hydraulics to reveal the storage space below.

What is a divan bed?

A divan bed is a bed which contains a base and mattress but no footboard or headboard.

The storage options that a divan and ottoman have are generous and practical, whether it’s used to store bed duvets, extra duvets or pillows, but a common question often asked is what is the difference between the two types?

Benefits of a divan bed

Divan beds have no headboard, which makes them great for loft rooms and sloping ceilings.

Divan beds include under-bed storage which is great for extra duvets etc and they are also, very compact in their size too.

Divan beds are structured with wood and covered in a layer of soft wadding and upholstered in fabric.

Divan bed bases are made to the same measurements as the mattress which makes the bed bases more compact.

Benefits of an ottoman bed

Within an ottoman bed, you have a variety of headboard designs. Also, with ottoman beds you have the lift and close mechanism, allowing you to store extra shoes, clothes etc as the storage compartment is split into two areas.

So, what is the main difference between an ottoman bed and a divan bed? However, a divan bed does not lift in the same way that an ottoman bed does. Wondering why? Well, an ottoman bed simply includes drawers that are included in the structure of the base.

Although a divan bed can certainly experience a malfunction with stuck drawers or loose hinges. Trying to figure out the issues and then fixing them may turn out to be easier than figuring out how to troubleshoot the mechanics of an ottoman bed.

It may be easier to figure out a divan bed’s issues compared to an ottoman bed since generally an ottoman is more complicated in structure compared to a divan bed.

However, if you are considering saving as much room as possible, an ottoman bed may be worth the investment.
