What Are Motion Isolating Mattresses?

Sleeping next to someone can be a pain when they toss and turn all night long, this is where motion isolating comes into importance. On a mattress with optimal motion isolation, you won’t even notice your partner rolling around or even getting in or out of bed, overall improving your quality of sleep. Being able to understand motion isolation is immensely important when buying a new mattress, especially for those who share a bed.

Mattress materials and types vary though memory foam mattresses tend to isolate well in particular. Whereas mattresses featuring internal springs aren’t the right choice for more sensitive sleepers. Polyfoam is similar to memory foam, but it is less dense and has more variation. Softer polyfoam layers may absorb motion almost to the same extent as memory foam, whereas firmer, more resilient polyfoam may transfer some movement.

Mattress toppers can increasingly isolate motion over your mattress if they’re made out of memory foam to a moderate degree. Couples sharing a larger mattress may need to consider purchasing separate mattress toppers that are less likely to affect each other when one person moves.
