A thicker pillow is best for side sleepers as there are more layers to it, they should also use 2 pillows as it allows for the whole body and neck to stay aligned.
It is recommended that a side sleeper should sleep on a medium-firm level pillow, this is because a medium/firm pillow helps keep your head stay in an upright position without sinking in when you sleep.
Side sleepers should use 2 pillows one between one under their head and the other between their knees this helps keep the back aligned and have a comfortable sleep. This helps ensure you are getting the support you need through your whole body.
A side sleeper’s pillow should be around 3 to 6 inches thick as there needs to be space for your neck and head to lay straight while also being comfortable. A side sleeper should choose a pillow thicker than a stomach sleeper as they won't have the pillow pushing against their stomach against them.
One problem that side sleepers may have is shoulder and neck pain no matter which side you sleep on the shoulder is being pressed into the mattress causing pressure to be put on your shoulder causing shoulder and neck pain as well as misalignment of the spine.
