What is the difference between a divan bed and an ottoman bed?

What is a divan bed?

A divan bed is made from a wooden frame that is then wrapped in a layer of soft padding and then covered in upholstered material.

What is an ottoman bed?

An ottoman bed is a bed with gas-lift hydraulics that has storage space underneath. The storage space is the entirety of the base of the bed.

Advantages and disadvantages of a divan bed:

Advantages:

The divan bed is a practical style of bed. These beds come with some extra storage space. Divan beds can come in two different types of storage. They can either have drawers or they can come in the ottoman bed style and lift to reveal the storage space underneath.

Divan beds are useful in keeping your items and bedroom organised. Even if the bed only has additional drawers, any additional storage space is always a positive.

The divan bed is very compact. If you have very little floor space, then a divan bed would be ideal as the bed is frameless, so the mattress is right on top of it.

The divan beds come in a variety of colours, fabrics and designs, so you can order a bed that matches the aesthetic of your bedroom.

Divan beds are one of the most simple and straightforward beds to assemble, anyone could put a divan bed together.

Disadvantages:

The disadvantage of a divan bed is they are bulky. This is because this style of bed is already made and comes in two pre-made box bases.

The divan bed is also difficult to clean underneath as the base is directly on the ground, there is no room to clean under unless you move the whole bed.

Advantages and disadvantages of an ottoman bed:

Advantages:

Ottoman beds have large amounts of storage space. This is the main feature of the bed and the reason why so many people purchase it. An ottoman bed can store up to four times that amount that a divan bed can This is because most divan beds only come with a few drawers.

The ottoman bed makes it very easy to access the storage space as it has a gas-lift hydraulics system that makes it easy to lift.

You can purchase storage beds in a variety of style, colours and fabrics. You can order and buy a bed that is completely customised by you that fits the décor of your bedroom.

Ottoman beds help to organise your bedroom as well as keep it neat and tidy. It’s a known fact that the more storage space you have the more organised you will be, and an ottoman bed provides ample amounts of storage as well as looking stylish at the same time.

Disadvantages:

Ottoman beds to tend to be on the pricier side. This is because ottoman beds offer more than a standard bed would and because of this they are more expensive to make ad therefore are more expensive to buy too.

They are also difficult to move around, especially when the storage space is being utilized to its full amount. So, if you are planning to move your bed maybe to a different bedroom or even a different home, then just know it won't be an easy process, by any means.

What is the difference between the ottoman and divan bed?

The main difference between the bed is the amount of storage you are getting with each bed. The ottoman bed will provide the most amount of storage as the storage space is underneath the mattress and uses the whole base of the bed. Whereas the divan bed only has up to four drawers that offer the storage space which is still useful but nowhere near as much as the ottoman bed offer.
