Which Mattresses Can Cause Neck Pain?

Which mattresses can cause neck pain?

Could your mattress be causing you neck pain? In this blog, I would like to explain how you can prevent neck pain caused by your mattress and more importantly how you can stay comfortable and healthy when you sleep.

One of the top culprits behind neck pain is often a bad mattress. A mattress that is old, worn out, or just not right for you can make you sleep out of alignment. This can cause pressure to build up in the neck and shoulders, causing strain.

The review is from Dr Lawrence Woods DC, a professional who helped design orthopaedic mattresses for over 20 years, stated the goal of his role as a chiropractor is to focus on improving the health of the patient to optimize their sleep. Many mattresses that were designed by him have been nominated for numerous awards and will continue to do so for the industry, to help people to have the best night's sleep possible.

Now that you know a bit more about the people that make the mattresses you sleep on, I would like to mention that for anyone that is suffering from neck pain, having a good mattress is an essential investment. As the right mattress will provide you with the support and alignment of the neck you need so that you can stay happy and healthy.

On the other hand, a poorly designed mattress could cause strain on your neck and shoulders, causing pain and many restless nights.

If your mattress is creating pressure points or just not providing enough support, your neck muscles can often tense up.

Neck pain that starts from the shoulders

Whereas a good mattress can provide support for your neck and spine and will be comfortable enough and will not have any pressure points. The sign that you should be looking for is when you are frequently waking with neck pain,  then it is time need to buy a new mattress or time for you to get an upgrade.

Let us now tackle how it is because the shoulder is not being supported either by the pressure that is caused by the mattress which can be too soft or too firm.  While sleeping your shoulders will then begin to rotate forward and backwards,  this will put a lot of strain on the muscles and ligaments in the shoulder and neck area.

To solve your problem then you are going to need to find a mattress that is neither too soft nor too firm, so it can support the shoulder, and it will not rotate forwards and backwards.

The importance of spinal alignment

Bad sleeping alignment could lead to serious health problems that include chronic neck pain. But when having a good mattress, you will allow your body to rest and be supported in the natural position which then will minimise the risk of neck pain and other health problems.

So, when you are choosing a mattress make sure that you find one that provides adequate support for the spinal alignment. You can even consult with a doctor or chiropractor to ensure that your new mattress is right for you.

Finally, as we all know that mattresses can be a cause of neck pain but the common complaints from doctors about neck pain are several factors that can contribute to the painful condition, from poor posture to arthritis. Well, the often problem would be that neck pain can be caused because of headaches and stiffness. If you are experiencing any of these then you should tell your doctor so they can tell you if it is any serious condition.
